Event photography and videography at Cockatoo Island
Cockatoo Island, known by its traditional name Wareamah, is the largest island in Sydney Harbour, sitting at the meeting of the Parramatta and Lane Cove rivers. A UNESCO World Heritage site since 2010, it combines convict-era sandstone, industrial shipbuilding sheds and open harbour-front terraces. Its headline space, the Turbine Shop, holds up to 2,000 guests for a cocktail event or 850 seated, and seven distinct spaces are available across the island, including the Conference Centre, the Mould Loft and the Convict Cinema. The island hosts large corporate functions, gala dinners, conferences, product launches, festivals and weddings, often staged against its cathedral-like industrial interiors and waterfront backdrops. Venue hire is managed by the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust, which has cared for the island since 2001. Its layered history runs from a convict penal establishment, through decades as a naval dockyard, to its current life as a cultural venue. For event photographers and videographers in Sydney, Cockatoo Island offers a rare mix of raw industrial texture, sandstone heritage and open harbour light, with arrival by ferry adding a natural sense of occasion to the coverage.
